SSC JE Recruitment 2026 Eligibility Criteria
To apply for SSC JE 2026, candidates must meet the nationality, educational qualification, and age criteria prescribed for the post and organization they are applying to.
Nationality/Citizenship
A candidate must be:
A citizen of India, or
A subject of Nepal, or
A subject of Bhutan, or
A person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, or specified East African countries with the intention of permanently settling in India (an eligibility certificate from the Government of India is required for these categories).
SSC JE Qualification
Essential educational qualifications differ by organization and post. Broadly:
JE (Civil): Degree in Civil Engineering from a recognized university/institute; or a three-year diploma in Civil Engineering plus relevant work experience (requirement varies by organization).
JE (Electrical) / JE (Mechanical) / JE (Electrical & Mechanical): Degree or diploma in the relevant Electrical/Mechanical/Automobile engineering discipline from a recognized university/institute, with experience required in some organizations.
JE (Telecom): Bachelor's degree in Engineering/Technology in Electrical, Electronics, Electrical Communications, Computer Science, Telecommunications, Information Technology, or Instrumentation.

SSC JE Salary
Selected candidates will be appointed to Group 'B' posts in Pay Level-6 of the Pay Matrix under the 7th Central Pay Commission, with a pay scale of ₹35,400 – ₹112,400. Actual in-hand salary will also include applicable allowances (such as DA, HRA and TA) as per the rules of the respective recruiting organization, which are not detailed in this notice.
SSC JE Selection Process
The detailed selection procedure has been mentioned in the official notification of SSC JE Recruitment 2026. But we are giving you here the short summary of the selection procedure. The candidates are advised to refer to official notification for selection procedure.
Selection Procedure:
Paper-I (Computer Based Examination – Qualifying): Consists of General Intelligence & Reasoning (50 marks), General Awareness (50 marks), and General Engineering subject as per post (100 marks). Duration: 2 hours (2 hours 40 minutes for eligible scribe candidates). Negative marking: 0.25 marks per wrong answer. Paper-I is qualifying in nature.
Shortlisting for Paper-II: Candidates are shortlisted category-wise based on normalized marks in Paper-I. Separate merit lists are drawn for JE (Civil), JE (Electrical & Mechanical), Scientific Assistant in IMD, and JE (Telecom).
Paper-II (Computer Based Examination – Merit): General Engineering subject as per post (100 questions / 300 marks). Duration: 2 hours (2 hours 40 minutes for eligible scribe candidates). Negative marking: 1 mark per wrong answer. Only normalized scores of Paper-II determine final merit.
Minimum Qualifying Marks: UR: 30% | OBC/EWS: 25% | All other categories: 20%.
Normalization: Marks are normalized if the examination is conducted in multiple shifts. Electrical and Mechanical branch marks are normalized by treating them as different shifts. IMD Part-D/E/F marks are also normalized similarly.
Post Preference: Candidates submit post preferences online before declaration of First Round of Tentative Allocation (FRTA). Final allocation is based on merit-cum-preference.
Physical Efficiency Test & Medical Standards (BRO only): Candidates selected for BRO posts must pass a Physical Efficiency Test (1 mile run within 10 minutes) and meet region-wise physical and medical standards as per Annexure-XVI. Only male candidates are eligible for BRO posts.
Document Verification: Conducted by the User Department after declaration of final result.
Tie Resolution: Resolved by (i) Marks in Part-I of Paper-I, (ii) Marks in Part-II of Paper-I, (iii) Date of birth (older candidate ranked higher), (iv) Alphabetical order of names.

Complete One-Time Registration (OTR) on the SSC official website: https://ssc.gov.in (old OTR from https://ssc.nic.in will not be functional).
Opt for Aadhaar-Based Authentication during OTR if possible, to avoid photograph/signature rejection issues.
After OTR, log in and click ‘Apply’ under ‘Junior Engineer Examination, 2026’ in the ‘Live Examination’ tab.
Fill in the Online Application Form with correct personal, educational, and category details.
Capture a live photograph (without cap/spectacles, plain background, full-frontal view) as prompted by the application module.
Upload scanned signature in JPEG format (10–20 KB, approx. 6.0 cm x 2.0 cm).
PwBD/PwD candidates must upload the relevant Disability Certificate (Annexure-I, IA, X–XII as applicable).
Select preferred Examination Centres (up to 3, in order of preference, from the same region or anywhere in the country).
